Why I Do This?

With over 15 years’ experience teaching English in secondary schools — including leadership roles and GCSE examining — I’ve seen first-hand what helps students succeed.

English is a subject that builds year on year. When students receive the right support early, they develop strong foundations, confidence, and clarity. When they don’t, they often fall behind not because of ability, but because they lack structured guidance.

What Matters Most

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: students shouldn’t feel lost, overlooked, or overwhelmed in English. Every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable — and every parent deserves clarity and reassurance. That’s what Your English Tutor UK does.

Since my daughter has started your english sessions, i have seen a huge improvement in her confidence in herself and in her writing which is shown through the significant improvement in her grades. She looks forward to your sessions and always comes back with a smile on her face.

My daughter was struggling in English, a mixture of Dyslexia and ADHD left her feeling she wasn't good enough or capable of doing well and as a result her grades were suffering. We made the decision to look for a tutor who could support her needs and give her confidence. In the short time she has been with Claire her confidence in the subject has grown enormously and her grades have improved from a 4 to a 6. She really feels as though she now understands the subject and has started pushing herself more. It was the best decision we made for her. Claire keeps us up to date with her progress and it gives her a real boost when she reads positive comments about her ability.

They really enjoy the lessons and are keen and enthusiastic to attend which can be hard after a long day at school. I’m pleased they have an opportunity to have almost one to one learning with you and really develop their English skills and understanding. It is building their confidence and helping with how they approach school English lessons and they use the strategies you teach them to further enhance their work.

The sessions are well structured and engaging, and Jack finds them both useful and enjoyable. Claire explains things clearly, helping him to see what should be included in his answers and how to organise his ideas. He now has a much better understanding of how to write with structure and purpose, which has made a big difference in his confidence. Claire’s feedback has also been a real highlight. She takes the time to go over Jack’s work carefully, pointing out both what he’s done well and what he can improve on next time. Her comments are always constructive and encouraging, and Jack responds well to the way she helps him move forward. Between his mock exams in November and February, his grade improved from a 3 to a 5 – a fantastic result that reflects how far he’s come. We’re really pleased with the progress Jack has made and grateful for the support Claire has provided. She has helped him see what he’s capable of and given him the confidence to believe he can succeed in English.

What a great lesson Claire! I loved how you guided them. And I felt really proud hearing him read his work...I actually was in another room and had to come listen closely! On one of the days we were travelling somewhere and he started speaking about this piece of work. He is definitely enjoying the class. I think his confidence is growing! Thank you!
