Why I Do This
After 15 years of teaching English—including leading as Head of English and marking thousands of papers as an examiner—I’ve helped hundreds of students improve their GCSE grades. But I realised the real magic happens in small groups, where every child gets the attention they deserve. That’s why I left teaching to launch Your English Tutor UK, a tuition service designed to give students and parents the tailored support schools can’t provide.
One Class, One Year, One Big Lesson
But I wasn’t always sure of the impact I had. When I moved to the UK in 2014, I had to start from scratch: a new system, new exams. I remember my first Year 11 class so clearly: 30 students and one year to turn things around. I poured everything I had into those lessons but deep down, I knew it wasn’t enough. So, I started running small group sessions after school. That’s where the magic happened. Nine months later, every single student had made progress, and on results day, every one of them walked away with a Grade 5 or higher. That moment lit a fire in me.
I became an examiner to deepen my expertise and secured my dream role as Head of English, where I used the same strategy: a rigorous curriculum backed by small group interventions. We ran sessions after school, over half term, even on Saturday mornings. And it worked. The school’s pass rate shot up by more than 20%.
Life took me in a new direction
But just as everything was rising, my whole world crashed.
My mum got ill, and I walked away from it all to care for her. It was during those quiet evenings between hospital appointments that Your English Tutor UK was born. Within two months, I was fully booked, and my mum was there to see me succeed. But then the cancer spread and I paused everything to give her my all in her final months.
A New Beginning
After she passed, I returned to what I knew best: the classroom, but my dream was still in the back of my mind. One day, I opened the letter my mum had written to me before she died. She told me, “If you ever need me, just step into the brightest light in the room.” That was the moment. I was ready to step back into the light.
I handed in my notice, relaunched Your English Tutor UK and this time, I knew it was going to work…
I invested in myself, using the money my mum left me to join Big Business Entrepreneurs. It was terrifying, but it was also a promise—to myself and to every student who would one day walk through my doors. I wasn’t just a teacher anymore. I was building a mission
Building a Business that Makes a Difference
For the first time in a long time, I know that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. Your English Tutor UK isn’t like traditional tuition; it’s a complete support system for students and their families. It’s built to raise performance, improve grades, and completely transform how students feel about English. And it’s working. Even at this late stage of the academic year, my books are nearly full. Parents are signing up not just for a few sessions, but for year-long memberships starting from September 2025. That tells me they’re not just buying lessons; they’re buying into the vision.
I’ve stepped out of the system, but I’ve never felt more in control, more aligned, or more determined to make an impact. I’ve learned that my voice matters and my experience is powerful. This version of me is braver. She speaks up, steps out, and builds what she wishes existed for others. I won’t let students become lost in crowded classrooms. Not when I know there’s another way. I’m here to make sure they’re seen, supported, and given every chance to thrive.
